Price drops for Intel processors. Quads at 50% off
Intel sure knows how to undermine the competition. The company posted up price reductions of 50 percent on a few quad-core processors while introducing new Celeron and Core 2 Duo processor models.
The price revamp involves Core 2 Quad Q6700 (2.66GHz) and quad-core Xeon X3230 (2.66GHz) which received a 50% price cut from $530 to $266 (Approximately Php 10900). If you’re looking to buy any of these processors now, I suggest you wait until the price drop propagates to your favorite/preferred dealer Intel.
Here’s a breakdown of other price cuts;
- Celeron 430 (1.8GHz) - $44 to $34 (Approximately Php 1,400)
- Celeron E1200 (1.6GHz) - $53 to $43 (Approximately Php 1,760)
- Dual-core Xeon 3085 (3GHz) - $266 to $188 (Approximately Php 7,700)
- Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 (3GHz) - $266 to $183 (Approximately Php 7,500)
- Dual Core E2200 (2.2GHz) - $74 (Approximately Php 3,050)
- E2180 (2GHz) - $64 (Approximately Php 2,650)
New to the Intel line up are 2 Celeron-based chips and 2 Core 2 Duo chips:
- Dual-core Celeron E1400 (2GHz) - $53 (Approximately Php 2,200)
- Celeron 570 (2.66GHz) - $134 (Approximately Php 5,500)
- E8300 (6MB cache, 2.83GHz) - $163 (Approximately Php 6,675)
- E7200 (3MB cache, 2.53GHz) - $133 (Approximately Php 5,450)
I’ve been an AMD fan for quite sometime now but every since the Core 2 line came out, I’ve been swooned by Intel into their line of products. I’ll be saving up for a new PC after getting a DSLR for my birthday ^_^

Man, the recent price cuts are driving me nuts. I’m still stuck with my AMD processor. I’ve had this for two years already. I’m not sure what’s the proper number of years before one should change his/her PC. This thing still works for me though I may have to upgrade my RAM. Still, the recent drops in processor costs really gets me thinking.

well.. my policy for changing PCs before was 2 years time. But now that I’m open to more things than just computing, it’s as long as it works, not if it feels slow or can’t support the latest games. It’s still up to you though. If have the cash, you can invest in a Core 2 now. If you don’t then upgrading your current rig is the best option. For now at least.
BTW. But if ever I decide to get a new PC, it’ll be an Intel based one.
