Downloading torrents w/o using a torrent client
While many geeks and PC enthusiasts will probably choke on the title, note that not all of us use our own connection (company network, public wifi) so what we can do with it is usually limited. There’s that and the notion that not everyone is familiar or comfortable with using torrents as a means of downloading stuff. If you need to download torrents but can’t or don’t want to risk it (no harsh comments about torrent-scared people please) you can use an online service to do it for you.
Wait, wait. I thought you said an online service? This is an image hosting site.![]()
Yep. Imageshack is well known as a free image hosting service but it has a few perks up it’s sleeve one of which is allowing you to download torrents. Yep. Imageshack has it’s own Bittorrent downloading service and they’re offering it to everyone for free.
How? Just sign up for an account, verify and login.

You have 2 options when adding torrents, you get one from a url or upload it from your drive.

After the upload, you’ll see the torrent in your dashboard and just press start or add another torrent.
Once you click start, you should see the torrent active

Once the download hits 100%, you’ll get a direct download link to get your file. Easy right?
Yep. But there’s a catch. 2 actually.
- You can’t seed your downloads, meaning the moment it hits 100%, imageshack automatically cuts off from the swarm. While this won’t affect casual users entirely, it affects the whole torrent community in general because p2p is about sharing.
- You’re limited to 15 GB a month. If you want to increase that cap, you have to pay for subscription service.
There’s quite a number of similar services already out there but i kinda like imageshack because it’s the first place I go to dump pictures.
Want to recommend a similar service? Post it in the comments and I’ll give you a link back.

no prob. I’m looking for a similar yet free service that passes through our company’s firewall but at the moment I’m out of luck.
