With more and more people jumping on the UMPC wagon, two major names come up head to head. Intel’s Atom and VIA’s Nano (AKA Isaiah but Nano will do). If you’re trying to pickout which platform to go for on your UMPC purchase, you might want to take a peek at these benchmarks.
Competitors are:
| VIA Nano L2100 CPU | Intel Atom 230 |
| Clock: 1.8 GHz Codename: Isaiah Technology: 65 nm Core Speed: 1817.9 MHz Multiplier: x9 Bus Speed: 202MHz Rated FSB: 808MHz L2 Cache: 1MB |
Clock: 1.6 GHz Codename: Diamondville Technology: 45 nm Core Speed: 1596.3 MHz Multiplier: x12 Bus Speed: 133 MHz Rated FSB: 532.1 MHz L2 Cache: 512 KB |
And here’s the benchmark results:

And here’s the power consumption
Performance goes for the Via Nano and Power Consumption goes for Intel Atom.
What does this mean?
If you’re looking for more juice for your system then a Nano-based UMPC should be on top of your shopping list but in terms of longetivity, an Atom should do just fine. You should note however that these benchmarks are accurate until the next incarnations (namely a more integrated Nano and the dual core Atom). Once those new products enter the market, things are bound to change but until then, it’s the Nano on top.
