Blu-Ray wins the War: RIP HD-DVD
The HD format war is officially over with HD DVD hitting the dust. The Blu-ray disc is now the standard for HD video on disc media.HD DVD has been pronounced dead on Tuesday, February 19, 2008, with Toshiba’s press release laying out the flowers for the HD DVD tomb. The Format War is over, officially and finally.

Toshiba even published this note even before the press release the news. Note that Toshiba is still not on Blu-ray wagon, but you can expect them to get there.
Toshiba Announces Discontinuation of HD DVD Businesses
19 February, 2008
Company Remains Focused on Championing Consumer Access to High Definition Content
TOKYO–Toshiba Corporation today announced that it has undertaken a thorough review of its overall strategy for HD DVD and has decided it will no longer develop, manufacture and market HD DVD players and recorders. This decision has been made following recent major changes in the market. Toshiba will continue, however, to provide full product support and after-sales service for all owners of Toshiba HD DVD products.
HD DVD was developed to offer consumers access at an affordable price to high-quality, high definition content and prepare them for the digital convergence of tomorrow where the fusion of consumer electronics and IT will continue to progress.
You can continue reading Toshiba’s statement on their site.
It’s good news for consumers who chose to wisely wait it out before deciding on which format to stick to. I wonder if people are still going to get XBOX’s with the HD DVD attachment for movies.

They can start importing Blu-Ray in the Philippines
Been a Blu-Ray supporter ever since, but I dont want to spend money on something where it is still unclear which will become ‘the standard’ format.
Well, time to look for a good yet cheap Blu-Ray techs around.. and time to tell the sales people selling HD-DVD that it is dead :p

I’ve been a Blu-Ray supporter ever since it became the PS3’s flagship. Still waiting for the price drop though. As of the moment, the PS3 is still the cheapest (and best choice) for Blu-Ray movies.
